It was a cool start to September, but we stayed warm and busy here. The month saw the annual butter tart party, a series of musical performances and the biannual Celebration of Life. We even had a salsa and chip party with salsa from our own green tomatoes. Our young apple trees are producing beautiful fruit and our very prolific pear tree is groaning under the strain of a generous crop. Fall colours are just starting but the dry summer might keep them a little muted this year. The frog pond is full, and the fall insects provide a cheerful chorus for anyone venturing down to the gazebo to enjoy a bit of nature. We’ve seen a heron, a family of chipmunks, the odd racoon, a confused turkey, a defensive groundhog and even a fox in the lovely grounds surrounding the home. We’re gearing up for a busy season with Remembrance Day, the Auxiliary bazaar and a federal election. Before you know it Christmas will be here and we’ll be planning for 2020!
