Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) & Outbreak Updates
At SJF, the health and safety of our residents, staff, families, and visitors is our highest priority. Our Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) program is designed to reduce the risk of infection and promote a safe, healthy living environment for everyone.
We follow evidence-based practices and provincial guidance to prevent the spread of infectious illnesses. Our dedicated team provides ongoing education, monitoring, and surveillance to ensure infection control measures are consistently maintained. This includes hand hygiene, environmental cleaning and disinfection, outbreak management, immunization promotion, and the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
By working together with residents, families, staff, and community partners, we remain committed to delivering high-quality care while safeguarding the well-being of all who call our home their community.
August 6, 2026 - Hilltop Outbreak Declared Over
We are pleased to inform you that the respiratory outbreak on Hilltop Home Area has been officially declared over effective today August 6, 2026, following consultation with Public Heath and in accordance with outbreak management guidelines.
We would like to thank everyone for their diligence, cooperation, and patience throughout the outbreak period.
As the outbreak has now concluded:
- Unit restrictions related to the outbreak have been lifted.
- Admissions, transfers, group activities, and visitation may resume as per normal facility practices.
- Routine infection prevention and control measures including hand hygiene will remain in effect and should continue to be always followed.
We appreciate your support during this challenging period.
July 31, 2026 - Outbreak Update
The respiratory outbreak in the Hilltop Home Area remains ongoing. The causative agents have been identified as Rhinovirus and Enterovirus.
Outbreak control measures remain in place to help prevent further spread of illness. This includes cohorting all Hilltop residents to their side of the Home Area for meals and activities. While the outbreak remains active, Hilltop residents will not be able to attend activities in other Home Areas or in the auditorium. These restrictions will remain in place until the outbreak has been declared over by Public Health. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to protect the health and safety of all residents and staff. We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
July 28, 2026 - Outbreak Update
Together with Public Health we have had to expand our Respiratory Outbreak in Hilltop Home area to both C and D side. Outbreak measures will include cohorting all Hilltop residents to their side of the Home Area for meals and activities. While in outbreak, Hilltop residents will not be able to attend activities on other home areas or the auditorium.
When entering Hilltop, wearing a well fitted mask is encouraged for the duration of the outbreak. We would encourage all visitors to seek assistance in proper donning and doffing of PPE’s when visiting any resident with isolation signage on their doorway. Please remember to keep your hands clean by washing and/or alcohol-based hand rub. Complete hand hygiene every time upon entering and exiting resident room and entry/exit to SJF.
July 24, 2026 - Outbreak Declared
